  1. In writing this review, I first searched my mind for something good to say about this band. I managed to think of one good thing, they have a decent name. Beyond that, the band and eveything it produces is crap.
I saw a concert by the Chile Peppers (a good band), the Flaming Lips opened for them. Until then I had never heard of this group. But the entire time they were on stage I hoped their name would come true, and their faces burst into flames. They’re just that bad.
Do yourself a favor, if you aren’t already a fan, don’t listen to this, or any other, cd by the Flaming Lips. Instead, smash your hand in a door. It’s less painful. If you are already a fan, you have my sympathy.

If you’re one of the people who noted my review as not helpful, you’re the people who I was talking about. It’s not your fault that you have bad taste in music. Ok, go listen to them live, and it should take care of that problem for you. Even Legmuffin, the guy with 10 positive reviews basically said you have to be stoned to enjoy it. And even then it didn’t get 5 stars.

  2. I bought this CD many years ago after seeing part of the “She don’t use Jelly” during a Beavis and Butthead episode. I thought that it was a silly but cool sounding song. I probably played that song a few times and then the CD made it to the bottom of the pile for several years. Today I found it again while I was going through my music collection and decided to give it a spin. Honestly… I hated it! All the songs sounded so juvenile, under produced, predictable and… just terrible…

I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If you want to explore this band, I highly recommend that you first download a song or two or listen to the samples here. If for some weird reason that I don’t understand, you like them, then by all means buy the CD and support these artists.

    I, for one, just don’t get it….

In comparison to “Clouds taste Metalic” I’d say this album is lacking in overall musicality that it’s predecesor had. I found the songs much duller and almost cookie-cutter. Of course you still get the same energy and zaniness from these guys but this time it works against them.
The way I see it the best Flaming Lips albums are:
    1.Clouds Taste Metalic (My fave)
    2.Soft Bulletin
    3.Yoshimi
4.Satellite Heart (Get this only if you think you’ll really like it)

  4. george hild says:

    This album is:
    1) More unnerving than a busload of homosexual hypnotists.
    2) Not produced by Phil Spector
    3) The musical rendition of ‘dueling cheese-graters.’

Of course, you simply mustn’t take my recommendation as such, and should immediately purchase the cd, along with a half pound of gouda.

  5. Stargrazer says:

Though initially I didn’t listen to it as much as “In a Priest Driven Ambulance,” this one slowly (and consistently) grew on me. A dozen years later, I still play it frequently and thoroughly enjoy it.

Song highlights are “Chewin’ the Apple of Your Eye,” “Superhumans,” “Be My Head,” and “Moth in the Incubator.” A great stretch of songs.
